Participated in one of the first initiatives of Design for Democracy, a national AIGA initiative to improve communication between government and citizenry through design. Election related research conducted in 2001 for Design for Democracy by Sapient, Inc defined five voter types: avid, civic, issue, apathetic and disenfranchised. We addressed voters in Chicago who are disenfranchised by language or cultural barriers. We conducted ethnographic research such as culture probes and interviews and developed images and bilingual messages specifically designed to reach out to those who may not be currently engaged in the election process in the Chinese, Korean, Mexican, Puerto Rican and Polish communities.
