This Too: Online Spaces for Critical Design Practice installation at the Narrow Margins, KCAI faculty art show, The ArtSpace, Kansas City, Fall 2011. Designers often fall into a grey area in regard to what constitutes research or creative practice. We are not fine artists and we are not scientists, but those are typical models used for qualifying what is a valuable investigation. The desire to engage the discipline in a discourse that provokes curiosity and encourages momentum may manifest in visual or written form. Old-guard standards would tell us that the validity of the written inquiry hinges on being published in a printed scholarly journal. But, what context is the most valuable, and most likely to make impact, in our current world of rich online culture?
